No fewer than 100 women in Ogun State have received free breast cancer screening from Jacaranda cancer center.
The exercise was part of the initiative of the organisation aimed at raising awareness about the disease and playing a role in supporting women in society
The awareness campaign held in Ibara Housing Estate, Oloke, Abeokuta was organised by Jacaranda cancer center in conjunction with Lions International and Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.
Jacaranda Cancer Center also sensitised women on the need to check regularly their breast to know their status.
The Chief Executive Officer of Jacaranda cancer center, Dr. Ololade Kehinde while speaking with newsmen said the campaign awareness was adopted to lend his voice to the fight against cancer, as research has shown that breast cancer is the leading cause of death globally.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abiodun on health said that the gesture was part of his effort to support government in sensitising the public about the deadly cancer.
He called on women all around the world to ensure they check their breasts after every menstrual cycle as advised by medical personnel.
According to him, “It is highly important that every woman goes for breast and cervical checks at interval to know their status. This will help them take necessary step in case of any eventuality.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Adeola Adebayo, consultant, community health physician, Olabisi Olabanjo Teaching Hospital said breast cancer is on the increase, urging women who see any lump in their breast not to allow it to grow, advising them to alert their doctors
Dr. Adeola called on women to always examine their breasts.
The programme also featured series of health talk and counseling from seasoned health practitioners.
