Three travellers going home for the yuletide have died on Christmas Day following accident that occurred about a kilometre away from Kara long bridge corridor of Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
Six travellers were also injured in the same accident that involved a total of 18 persons while 11 came out of the wreckage unhurt, according to Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Ogun State sector command.
The auto crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AYB 88 XP and unmarked vehicle.
Florence Okpe; Superintendent Route Commander and Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) Public Education Officer for Sector Commander, Ogun State Sector Command, Ahmed Umar, who confirmed the accident, attributed the cause to excessive speed from the bus driver who made an attempt to overtake the truck but failed.
Okpe explained that the bus driver lost control in the process and rammed into the rear of the truck, even as the unaffected truck did not bother to stop.
According to her, the injured travellers were taken to Famobis Hospital for treatment while the remains of the dead were deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu.
She quoted the Sector Commander of FRSC Ogun State, Ahmed Umar, as saying the crash was unavoidable if caution had been put in place and the passengers played their roles by warning the driver against reckless driving.
According to her, Umar also sympathised with the family of the victims and advised motorists to obey simple traffic rules.
