The Queen of England, Elizabeth II, has died at Balmoral at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years. She was the longest serving monarch in the history of the United Kingdom.

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday.

The Queen was crowned in 1952 was a participant and frontline leader in many of world’s events that changed and shaped the history of the 21st century.

The united kingdom, as a monarchical system of government, it is expected that her eldest son and former Prince of Wales, will automatically ascend the throne and lead the Commonwealth countries as they mourn the Queen.

A Buckingham Palace statement said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

All the Queen’s children travelled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under strict medical observation.

Queen Elizabeth’s reign witness ed 15 Prime Ministers, from British war hero Winston Churchill born in 1874 to Liz Truss, who became PM a few days ago.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926.
