A renowned PDP Chieftain and Egba traditional leader, Chief Toyin Amuzu has urged Nigerians, especially leaders in the Country to engage in sober reflections and critical thinking to tackle the myriad of challenges confronting the Nation.
Chief Toyin Amuzu, who gave this advice in Abeokuta as Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence anniversary, lamented the crippling economic hardship and stringent policies of the ruling party, which he said, have left citizens reeling.
According to him, “our nation must do everything necessary to continue to rise above it’s challenges as we remain steadfast in our pursuit of a better tomorrow”.
In his words, he said “as we mark independence, I join others to reflect on our Nation’s journey. No doubt, the Country has made some significant progress but still faces a whole lot of challenges rising from greed, poverty, dysfunctional systems, lack of basic needs and poor leadership among others. This is why all of us, most especially political office holders in the country must re-commit to unity, peace and collective progress.
“Fellow Nigerians, as we mark this significant milestone, it is imperative that we reflect on our journey so far. Regrettably, the economic hardship and stringent policies of the ruling party have taken a toll on our citizens. An hungry people is an angry people,” Chief Amuzu stated.
He noted that despite Nigeria’s unity, the country faces daunting challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity, and social unrest.
“Nigeria is at a crossroads. Our leaders must look inward and find solutions to alleviate the suffering of our people. We cannot continue to ignore the cries of our citizens,” Chief Amuzu emphasized.
He urged leaders to prioritize citizens’ welfare, reflect on past mistakes, and develop innovative solutions to address the nation’s challenges.
“As we celebrate our independence, let us remember that true freedom is not just political, but also economic. Let us work towards a Nigeria where every citizen has access to basic necessities of life,” Chief Amuzu concluded.
