The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta South Local Government has officially submitted three shortlisted candidates for the position of Local Government Chairman ahead of the upcoming council elections in November.
Following a highly competitive process that saw over 23 aspirants from the 15 Wards of the local government expressed interest, party leaders strategically narrowed their selection to candidates from Abeokuta South Constituency 2.
This is rationalised by the leaders because Constituency 1, on the other hand, already holds significant political importance, housing two ministers, a commissioner, the senatorial chairman, and the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the National Sports Festival, among other influential figures.
After extensive deliberations, the APC leaders finalized the following three names for consideration:
1. Babatunde Adeluola (Delu)
2. Ayo Shomide (AY-Show)
3. Akamo Sunday Oluwagbemiga (Akamo)
This phase of the selection process has been lauded as one of the most peaceful and orderly political runs in recent history for the premier local government.
As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the APC leadership to make the final decision on who will represent the party in the forthcoming council elections.
The outcome is expected to set the tone for a competitive general election race, as the chosen candidate will lead the APC’s charge in the November council polls.
