The Babalaje of Gbagura Nation and Aare Alasa of Owu Kingdom, Alhaji AbdulBakai Ajao Okedara has donated three blocks of classrooms for Community primary school Olomore and rehabilitated Abeokuta local government primary school (ANLG) in Oke Ago-Owu as parts of activities to commemorate his 70th birthday.
The two projects were commissioned by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Professor Saka Adelola Matemilola.
Alhaji Bakai also empowered market women and widows with empowerment of cash gift as to alleviate their suffering and support the individual businesses.
In attendance included the Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba Professor Saka Adelola Matemilola, Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, the Abeokuta North, APC party Chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi amongst others.
Our correspondent reports that the donated facilities at Olomore Community Primary School were built from scratch and equipped with essential writing materials, including chairs, tables, blackboards, while the rehabilitated ANLG school in Oke Ago-Owu was also refurbished.
The event equally attended by several members of the APC and well-wishers, and featured cultural displays by the Olomore Community Primary School students.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bakai expressed his gratitude to God for sparing his life to reach another milestone age, therefore said the projects donation and the empowerment was to praise God and make impact on the lives of people.
He said “I am grateful to God for sparing my life to reach this milestone age. I have always believed in giving back to the community, and this donation is my way of showing appreciation for the support I have received over the years.”
“I’m using this to praise God and to make impact on the less privileged people.”
Speaking on the cash empowerment, Alhaji Bakai said “Committee was set up, I told them that I want it to be donated to traders precisely. The 50 thousand naira (#50,000) were given to traders who sell bread, pepper and the likes. We bargained on 26 people that benefitted and that’s how I do every year, Alhaji Bakai concluded.
On his parts “Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba Matemilola Commended Alhaji Bakai for his selfless contributions to the community, saying, he’s generosity is an inspiration to everyone.
According to the Kabiyesi “It has really been a great pleasure for me to be here today to help commissioned this classrooms constructed by Chief Bakai Okedara, this is one of the things that really makes me feel excited, seeing people want to support you know from their modest resources. We made an advanced development in the community and this is a very big thing for this school.
“We know the government cannot do it all, so we want to call on well-meaning citizens of Ogun State, Abeokuta in particular to come and support and also do something to help these little kids cause they are the future.
Oba Matemilola therefore urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment to make use of it judiciously.
His words “For the beneficiaries I only hope and I implore them to make the best use cause that’s the only way to encourage the person who has provided the empowerment and also to encourage others who may similarly be inspired to also come and support in terms of empowerment, Oba Matemilola concluded.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi commended Alhaji Bakai kind gesture, saying that it’s a laudable initiatives.
He said “On behalf of the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, I congratulate the people of Owu most especially the Kabiesi that they have a son like this and I implore many more to have that spirit so that they can give to the people as much as possible”.
On her parts, the headteacher of community primary school, Olomore, Mrs Olubunmi Ashoore appreciated the donor, therefore wishes him a successful birthday celebration.
