Aggrieved youths in ward 5, Ijemo, Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State,have raised alarm over an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC Senatorial Chairman, Elder Sunday Sowunmi to impose a former councilor, Hon. Olasupo Idowu Gafar on the ward executives.
The youths while speaking with our correspondent accused the Senatorial chairman of planning to select the former councilor as sole candidate of ward 5 without holding primary election.
They also disclosed that the action of Elder Sunday Sowunnmi would throw the ward into an intractable crisis, calling on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and political leaders in the local government to intervene.
They said ” It’s turn of zone 1 to produce councilor according to the existing protocol in order to avoid crisis, especially not to lose to an opposition and if we could remember we lost all our polling unit against PDP and we don’t want such to repeat itself. We are the grassroots and they should always consider us too. We don’t want IMPOSITION in Ward 5.
The Senatorial chairman while reacting said the allegations leveled against him is untrue, saying that his is not imposing any candidate on anyone.
He said “In every ward, exco decided the choice of candidates in each ward , ward 5 is not exceptional, majority of the excos of ward 5 signed in support of Hon. Supo Gafar for second term. I am not an impositor, i preferred the candidate to come from my zone which is zone 1 but exco has decided” he concluded
